[Introduction]
One of the greatest American composers, George Gershwin!!
As a successful pianist and composer who's achieved highest standard for both popularity and artistry in modern music history, this special concert is your chance to encounters his eternal, timeless songs, which are still continues to be the source of inspiration for many musicians and artist.
Celebating the 125th anniversary of George Gershwin's birth (1898-1937), the concert will feature a clean, refined sound, a pleasant swing-infused, light improvisation, and a more balanced piano-based interplay of piano-bass-drum trio, with paying tribute to the 1959 "Gershwin Songbook" album made by legendary virtuoso jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.
Pianist Jaehun Kang, who will be playing the "Gershwin Songbook" project, is the first Korean jazz pianist to be accepted and graduate from the Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School of Music. He also plays a pivotal role in many jazz groups, including Woongsan Band, Ju-hwan Kim Band, and Sujin Suh Colorless Trio to name a few.
Jaehun Kang trio is joined by bassist Jin-kyo Park, who is considered as "Ron Carter of Korea" and young drummer Moohyun Choi, who recently began to draw attention in the Korean jazz scene, and they inherit the style and form of traditional American jazz, often known as "straight ahead jazz" and they stay true to the authenticity and tradition of jazz where swing is at the core.
"Gershwin Songbook," played by Jaehun Kang, who shows sweet and elegant jazz piano with a feather-light touch, and Jinkyo Park, who plays a stable, weighted, intelligent bass line, and Moohyun Choi, who plays various styles of rhythm like a chameleon, will come together to perform a songs of love, romance and just some good ol' broadway show tunes that never gets old but just keeps getting better over time.
This concert performance is a rare opportunity to hear the aesthetics of swing and improvisation, which are essential elements of jazz, entirely through Gershwin's work, and the sophisticated performance of the jazz piano trio at the classical hall (Seoul Arts Center) is also another rare opportunity that cannot be missed.
